A mountain lion carved by a Chumash Indian artisan, and thus
one of the earliest native sculptures in California, graces
the entrance to the old lavendaria (laundry area) of the
Franciscan mission in Santa Barbara, CA.  Water once issued
from the beast's mouth to irrigate the adjacent fields.
